INVITATION PANEL DEBATE:
“Protecting people on the move: IDPs in the context of the refugee and migrant crisis”

In the framework of the 37th session of the UN Human Rights Council, the
Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue and the
Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre – in cooperation with the Permanent Mission of the United Arab Emirates to UN Geneva – is organizing a panel debate on the theme of “
Protecting people on the move: Internally displaced persons in the context of the refugee and migrant crisis.”
The debate will be held on
21 March 2018 from 11:30 to 13:30 at Palais des Nations in Geneva (Room XXV).
The objective of the panel is to discuss the causes and the consequences of IDPs associated with conflict-related violence. It will also seek to analyse current mechanisms related to the protection, return and reintegration of IDPs. In order to respond to the challenges and peculiarities related to internal displacement, the panel debate will address these issues through a case-study analysis of
Iraq and Syria.Azerbaijan will provide practical insights on lessons learned related to assisting and supporting IDPs in protracted conflict situations. We would greatly appreciate your presence on this occasion.
