The Geneva School of Diplomacy is pleased to highlight the latest academic publication by faculty member Dr Jelena Aparac, whose work continues to contribute to international scholarship at the intersection of human rights, international law, and global governance.
Dr Aparac contributed to the recently published academic volume Business, Human Rights and Natural Resource Governance: Accountability for a Just Transition, released in open access ahead of formal publication by a leading international academic publisher.
Co-authored with Yousuf Khan, Chapter 8, Business and Human Rights in Armed Conflicts and the Competition for Natural Resources, examines how United Nations Commissions of Inquiry may need to adapt their investigative and policy approaches in response to emerging actors, including non-state armed groups and economic actors, amid growing competition over rare materials and natural resources.
The chapter also explores potential avenues for the International Criminal Court’s jurisdiction and the increasing importance of engaging with emerging forms of international criminality, including economic crimes and ecocide, in addressing transnational and climate-related harms.
This publication reflects the Geneva School of Diplomacy’s continued engagement with critical contemporary debates surrounding international law, business and human rights, sustainability, accountability, and global governance.
Dr Aparac’s broader research portfolio continues to contribute to the School’s academic development and international scholarly visibility.
