I&C Lecture – Ukraine: Another Munich 1938 all over again?
Being in the very heart of the most diplomatic neighborhood in the world, we must honor our commitment as an Institute of International Relations and Diplomacy, to enlighten students as to current topics. Indeed, the world has been drastically disrupted with the recent news on Ukraine.
A war has started, and civilians are dying every day, while others are struggling to escape Ukraine with the hope to survive.
On Wednesday 02/03/2022, we organized a special panel discussion as part of our
I&C seminar series under the topic of
Ukraine – Another Munich 1938 all over again? to discuss the situation in Ukraine and apprehend the conflict with Russia.
We had the pleasure to welcome outstanding guests and top-notch specialists in international conflicts.
- Dr Colum de Sales Murphy, GSD President and Founder. He served the United Nations and International Community for more than 32 years, as an expert in human rights and negotiations in conflict areas. He served the cause of peace in several wars including Somalia, Liberia, and Bosnia.
- Dr Alexander Likhotal, President of Green Cross International. He served as a European Security analyst for the Soviet Union leadership, and was Deputy Spokesman and Advisor to the President of the USSR, Mikhail Gorbachev (1989-1991).
- Dr Alfred de Zayas, the first UN Independent Expert on the promotion of a democratic and equitable international order. He was a lawyer to the New York bar, and served as a UN lawyer for over two decades. He is also a successful writer who has been nominated several times for the Nobel Peace Prize.
A huge thank you to our reputed guests and dear students, for running a seminar that appears to be a watershed mark for GSD.
