GSD Celebrated the International Day of Peace by Siofra Sharpe

Another episode of International Peace Day took place and screamed success this week as students and staff alike dodged the raindrops under the school awning.
As we all huddled there together, steering clear of what had rapidly turned into torrential rain, we regaled as students trickled in sporting full national costumes – taunting us with the yummy traditional dishes they had so kindly and lovingly prepared. As the food hit our tummies and the drinks flowed easily, the grim grey day soon faded into the background and left our minds. The afternoon was warm in spirit and conversations were animated. Food from Mali, Nigeria, Switzerland, France, the US, Lebanon, Malaysia to name a few, adorned the colorful tables and cozy corner we occupied. We raised a glass (or several) to the cause at hand – International Day of Peace  (officially September 21st) – reminding ourselves and each other that variety is the spice of life and tolerance the ticket to taming turbulence. This very special occasion was but one way to do so but a nice one at that!!! A heartfelt thank you to all who participated in spirit and in kind. Peace be with you!
