Inspiring Words from MA Graduate Madhura Nimkar
During Graduation, MA Graduate Madhura Nimkar inspired us all with the last words of her speech:
“Going forward, some of us would want to study this field further while some of us would want to start working with institutions and the people on the ground. But before I conclude, I will share three things that I think we need to remember in today’s IR scenario. (Here it comes- the traditional, inspirational part of a valedictorian speech. Don’t worry, I’ll make it short.)
So, three things: the first one has been said by George Orwell in his book, “1984” which keeps getting more relevant over time. He says, “If you can feel staying human is worthwhile, even when it can’t have any result whatever, you’ve beaten them.”
The second thing was told to me by my hero, my father. I do not know whose original quote but it has always stayed with me “Give the world, the best you have; and the best will come back to you.”
And the third one, which was told to a super-hero by his uncle and which is relevant since some of us will choose to head countries or organizations – here it comes, from Spider Man’s Uncle Ben -“With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility.”
And with that, I conclude and thank you all again.”
