Mr. David Merkel

David A. Merkel is Managing Director of Summit International Advisors, LLC, a geopolitical advisory firm. He has worked and lived in America, Africa, Asia and Europe. His experience includes the US Government, international organizations, policy institutions, NGOs and the private sector. Mr. Merkel served as Deputy Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the US Treasury as well as a Director with the National Security Council in the White House. He also served as Senior Professional Staff with the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and Senior Foreign and Defense Policy Advisor for the US House of Representatives. He has worked with the United Nations and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) as well as policy institutions including the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), the Atlantic Council and Johns Hopkins SAIS. His work has included nongovernmental institutions including the Eurasia Foundation as well as working in the private sector with companies and funds to assess geopolitical risks and opportunities. He holds a BBA in Economics and from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) a MSc with Merit. Mr. Merkel is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
