The Geneva School of Diplomacy (GSD) helps students tap into the tremendous potential of this city through practical, hands-on trainings that assist them to establish relationships with Geneva-based international organizations. Our Bachelor and Master Students leverage the resources of GSD to participate in a wide variety of internship opportunities that complement their studies.

Students of the Geneva School of Diplomacy have worked in a wide range of non-profit organizations and UN missions that confront issues ranging from working on programmes banning landmines to the development of nuclear policy, giving them a first-hand glimpse into the inner workings of the diplomatic world.

The GSD Internship Programme

GSD students of the Bachelor and Master level have the opportunity to do internships as part of their curriculum in International Relations. This is an ideal way for students to gain practical experience and apply theoretical knowledge to real world issues.

In order to help students in their internship search, GSD has developed regular agreements with a network of organizations, benefiting from its Geneva location and the nearby presence of embassies, diplomatic missions, governmental agencies, NGO’s, multi-national private corporations, etc.

The platform displays jobs, internships and voluntary positions offered by Geneva based NGOs. It is open to NGOs that have an up-to-date and validated profile with the NGO Service.

Introduction & objectives

Internship projects are approved by GSD in order to ensure that they complement the programme and the job aspirations of the student. This guarantees that students make the most of the opportunity to adapt their academic knowledge to professional life in their field of interest, to explore career paths, to acquire relevant hands-on practice, and to make important professional contacts.

GSD ensures that interning students incorporate their internship experience into the academic programme, by assigning them an internship coordinator who guides them in the fulfilment of written and oral requirements:

  • Researching and writing a paper on their internship (12 pages minimum).
