Careers Day: Part 1

GSD recently held a highly anticipated Career Day, designed to equip students with essential tools and insights for launching successful careers in diplomacy, international relations, and beyond. The event brought together distinguished speakers and professionals to share their experiences, strategies, and best practices with our current students.

The day started with a session led by Dr. Rakesh Krishnan, an international relations and diplomacy expert. Dr. Krishnan emphasized the critical skills and global perspectives needed to build an international career in these fields. He encouraged students to be adaptable, proactive, and culturally aware as they navigate the complex landscape of global diplomacy. His insights on seizing opportunities in international organizations and engaging with diverse cultures left a lasting impression on attendees.

Following Dr. Krishnan’s session, GSD Dean Dr. Athar Sultan-Khan took the stage to provide an in-depth look into the realities of building a career within the United Nations system. Drawing on his extensive experience, Dr. Sultan-Khan outlined the expectations and challenges that come with working for the UN and similar multilateral organizations. He discussed strategies for overcoming these challenges and emphasized the importance of networking, perseverance, and a clear sense of purpose in making a meaningful impact. His candid advice resonated with students aspiring to work within the global governance framework.

The final session of the day featured representatives from Michael Page, who delivered a hands-on workshop on career preparation. Focusing on the essentials of CV writing, motivation letters, and interview techniques, the session provided students with practical guidance on how to present themselves effectively to prospective employers. Students gained valuable insights into current industry standards and were given concrete examples of how to craft their professional documents and approach job interviews with confidence.

The Career Day event was an enriching experience for all participants, offering them not only expert advice but also a roadmap for achieving their career aspirations. GSD remains committed to providing our students with opportunities to engage with professionals and gain the skills they need to thrive in competitive international environments.

This event is a testament to GSD’s dedication to fostering the professional development of our students and preparing them for impactful careers on the global stage.
