Professor Alexander Likhotal is the President of Green Cross International.
He has graduated the Moscow State Institute for International Relations (MGIMO) in 1972. He holds Ph.D. in History from the MGIMO (1975) and Senior Doctorate in Political Science from the Institute of World Economy and International Relations, USSR Academy of Sciences (1987). He is a certified Professor since 1991.
In addition to an academic career he served as a European Security analyst for the Soviet Union leadership and was Deputy Spokesman and Advisor to the President of the USSR, Mikhail Gorbachev (1989-1991).
He was a visiting professor at the Northeastern University, Boston, USA (1996-1998), Research Associate at the institute of European Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow (1992 – 1997) and Associate Editor of Security Dialogue Journal, Oslo, Norway (1994-2000). He is the author of several books and numerous articles.
Likhotal contributed to many international conferences. His talks on political matters were highly estimated at Princeton University and in the New York Foreign Policy Association, at Oxford University (UK), Max Planck Society and Kiel Institute for the World Economy (Germany) and many other think tanks and institutions.
He is also a member the Board of Trustees of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, of the Club of Rome, of the World Academy of Art and Science, member of the Climate Change Task Force, a Councilor at the World Future Council, and serves as an adviser to the Club of Madrid.
