Biography
Dr. Athar Sultan-Khan is the Dean and Professor of Diplomacy and International Relations at the Geneva School of Diplomacy. He serves as Chair of its Advisory Council. He is also Special Advisor on Diplomacy (pro bono) at UNHCR; and former Special Advisor to the UN Secretary-General and former Chef de Cabinet to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
Over the course of his international career, Dr. Sultan-Khan has held senior advisory and leadership roles across multilateral institutions, contributing to high-level policy development, strategic coordination, and international dialogue on humanitarian affairs, migration policy, and international cooperation.
His expertise spans diplomacy, international governance, humanitarian action, refugee policy, and multilateral engagement. Through his academic and institutional leadership, Dr. Sultan-Khan contributes strategic insight and international institutional perspective in support of the Geneva School of Diplomacy’s academic mission and development.
