Foundation Programme
The Foundation Programme at the Geneva School of Diplomacy is a pre-university academic pathway designed to prepare students for further university study in international relations, diplomacy, and global affairs. Delivered in International Geneva, the programme provides an intensive academic introduction to global issues while strengthening study skills and academic readiness.

The Foundation Programme offers an intensive, one-semester academic introduction to global affairs, designed as a bridge into undergraduate or graduate study in international relations and related fields.
Combining academic foundations with practical insight, the programme provides structured exposure to diplomacy, global governance, and international cooperation. Students develop subject knowledge alongside essential academic skills in an international learning environment shaped by Geneva’s diplomatic ecosystem.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the programme, students will be able to:

- Apply academic reading, writing, and research skills in preparation for university study
- Analyse global issues using introductory theoretical frameworks
- Communicate ideas clearly in written and oral academic contexts

Programme Structure
The Foundation Programme is delivered over one academic semester, combining subject-based learning with skills development and academic orientation.

Assessment is based on coursework and assignments, depending on the academic track.
Admissions Requirements
Applicants must have completed secondary education or an equivalent qualification suitable for entry into a foundation-level programme.
English language proficiency
Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English through one of the following (or equivalent):
- IELTS 6.5
- TOEFL iBT 85
- Cambridge C1 Advanced
- Duolingo English Test 115
Admissions decisions are based on academic background, motivation, and readiness to engage in an English-language academic environment.
Tuition and Fees
- Application fee: CHF 300 (non-refundable)
- Enrolment fee: CHF 1,500
- Tuition fee: CHF 9,900 (for the 14-week programme)
Tuition fees cover academic instruction. Living expenses, travel, and personal costs are not included.
Progression Pathways
Successful completion of the Foundation Programme supports progression to Bachelor’s or Master’s level programmes at the Geneva School of Diplomacy, subject to academic performance and admissions requirements.
