I completed my BSc in Political Science, which sparked a deeper interest in international politics, including the understanding of war, trade, foreign policy, and diplomacy. As a natural researcher, I set out to find a school that would not only deepen my knowledge of international relations but also offer hands-on experience through internships and ideally leading to possibility of full-time employment. That search led me to the Geneva School of Diplomacy (GSD). GSD ticked every box I was looking for, and access to the United Nations Library was what really caught my attention. My time at GSD was one of a kind. The small class sizes and personable teaching style, the accessible and experienced lecturers, the access to the UN library, and above all, the friendships I built through GSD and life in Geneva, all of it made the experience a worthwhile and unforgettable. Securing an internship is a core part of the GSD curriculum, and I was fortunate to intern with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), where I managed the Diversity & Inclusion Internship Programme (DIIP, 2019). This was a unique UN initiative designed to attract and retain candidates from under-represented backgrounds within the UN system. Being part of that initiative remains one of my proudest achievements. Today, I am based in London UK, working as Project and Governance Manager for the NHS England Prevention Programme. While I no longer work directly within the UN system or a foreign office, the principles of diplomacy I have learned continue to shape how I approach my work and everyday life.
