Biography

Ambassador Dr Sameh Aboul-Enein is a senior Egyptian diplomat, academic, and international security expert with extensive experience in multilateral diplomacy, disarmament, international negotiations, and strategic affairs. 

He currently chairs the Egyptian Foreign Service Council of Assistant Ministers and Senior Officials and serves as Assistant Minister for the United States, Canada, the Americas, and Strategic Issues. He previously held the role of Assistant Minister for Disarmament, Non-Proliferation, and International Security. 

Throughout his diplomatic career, Ambassador Dr Aboul-Enein has held several senior international postings, including Ambassador of the League of Arab States to the United Nations in Geneva, Alternate Ambassador of Egypt to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, and Consul General of Egypt to the United States. He also previously served as Deputy Foreign Minister and Director of the Egyptian Diplomatic Academy. 

His diplomatic work has focused extensively on international security, arms control, nuclear disarmament, non-proliferation, and multilateral negotiations. He has led negotiations in several international forums, including the Conference on Disarmament, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the United Nations First Committee, and the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) review processes. 

Alongside his diplomatic responsibilities, Ambassador Dr Aboul-Enein has built an extensive academic career in international relations, diplomacy, crisis management, and security studies. He serves as Adjunct Professor at the American University in Cairo and has held visiting academic positions at institutions including the University of East Anglia, the University of Stirling, the NATO Defense College, and the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom. 

At the Geneva School of Diplomacy, he serves as Professor of International Relations and Organizations and became Honorary Vice-Dean of the institution in 2017. 

Ambassador Dr Aboul-Enein has published and lectured extensively in both English and Arabic on international security, conflict resolution, Middle East affairs, and nuclear non-proliferation. His contributions to diplomacy and academia have been recognized through several international awards and distinctions.
