Biography
Dr. Monica Emmanuel is a graduate of the Doctor of International Relations programme at the Geneva School of Diplomacy, where she also served as a Research Scholar and Lecturer between 2011 and 2015. Her academic and professional background focuses on diplomacy, peacebuilding, Africa–EU relations, energy cooperation, conflict resolution, and international development.
She currently serves as Africa Project Manager and Global Coordinator at the Africa Global Experts Forum & Diplomatic Dialogue (AGEFADD), where she leads cross-regional initiatives promoting strategic partnerships, development cooperation, diplomatic engagement, and capacity-building programmes connecting Africa with Europe and the wider international community.
Prior to this role, Dr. Emmanuel worked for several years with the International Energy Charter as Expansion Coordinator for Africa and previously as Nigeria and ECOWAS Coordinator. In these positions, she worked extensively on strengthening relations between African states, ECOWAS, and the International Energy Charter framework, supporting energy governance, multilateral cooperation, investment dialogue, and strategic partnerships across the continent. Her work contributed to the advancement of ECOWAS-EU energy cooperation initiatives and the expansion of African participation within the Energy Charter process.
Alongside her international policy and diplomatic work, she has held research, teaching, and programme management roles at the National Defence College Nigeria, focusing on peacebuilding, humanitarian affairs, peace support operations, conflict studies, and development policy. At the Geneva School of Diplomacy, she developed and taught courses including “Conflict: Roots and Resolution” and “Africa and Challenges of Development,” while also supporting institutional partnerships between GSD and African stakeholders.
Her professional interests include Africa–EU relations, international diplomacy, energy cooperation, peacebuilding, strategic partnerships, multilateral negotiations, and sustainable development across Africa.
