Biography
Dr. Maria Sokolova is an international trade specialist with expertise in the monetary dimensions of trade integration, trade and conflict, regionalism, and gender.
She is currently based in Geneva, where she works at the International Trade Centre (ITC). Her professional background spans international organisations, academia, and the private sector.
Dr. Sokolova’s empirical research has been published in peer-reviewed academic journals and focuses on global trade dynamics, economic governance, and the intersection between economics and international development.
She holds a Ph.D. in International Economics and Law from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, an MSc from the University of St Andrews, and a BSc from the Russian Economic Academy.
In addition to her academic and professional work, Dr. Sokolova is a committed advocate for women’s representation and empowerment in the field of economics.
