Biography

Ana Teresa Carrión-Chavarría is a graduate of the former Executive Master of International Relations (EMIR) programme at the Geneva School of Diplomacy, which she completed between 2005 and 2007 while continuing her professional work with international organisations, including the International Labour Organization and the Permanent Mission of Mexico to the WTO.

A lawyer by training, Ana Teresa’s academic and professional background focuses on labour standards, trade compliance, international economic governance, and the relationship between legal frameworks and global institutional dynamics.

Her EMIR thesis, “Addressing Non-Compliance with Core Labour Standards in an Interdependent World: Which Are the Rules of the Game?”, explored themes that remain highly relevant today, including ESG, labour standards, regional trade agreements, and the evolving relationship between trade and social governance.

Through the programme, she developed a broader understanding of global governance, systemic risk, and the international frameworks shaping economic cooperation. Her experience at the Geneva School of Diplomacy remains an important foundation in her professional and intellectual development.

Her professional interests include labour standards, international trade, ESG, global governance, systemic risk, and international economic cooperation.
