The Graduate Foundation Programme in International Relations and Diplomacy is a one-semester academic pathway designed for university graduates seeking to strengthen their knowledge of international affairs and prepare for advanced studies at the Geneva School of Diplomacy.
The programme provides an intensive introduction to international relations, diplomacy, global governance, international security, and contemporary global challenges. Through academic coursework and practical engagement, students develop analytical, research, and communication skills while gaining exposure to Geneva’s unique international environment.
Students may follow either a credit-bearing or non-credit pathway depending on their academic objectives and future study plans. Successful completion may support progression to Master’s programmes at the Geneva School of Diplomacy, subject to admissions requirements.

Programme Structure
The Graduate Foundation Programme is delivered over one academic semester (14 weeks), combining advanced introductory coursework in international relations and diplomacy with research, analytical, and professional skills development.

Admissions Requirements
The Graduate Foundation Programme welcomes university graduates seeking preparation for advanced studies in international relations, diplomacy, and global affairs.
Education Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification.
- Official academic transcripts.
- Curriculum Vitae (CV).
- Motivation Letter.
- Passport or national ID copy.
English language proficiency
Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English through one of the following (or equivalent):
- IELTS 6.5
- TOEFL iBT 85
- Cambridge C1 Advanced
- Duolingo English Test 115
Applicants who have completed prior studies in English may be exempt from submitting additional English language test results.
Applications are reviewed holistically by the Admissions Office. Successful applicants receive an offer letter together with enrolment and visa guidance where applicable.
Tuition and Fees
- Application Fee: CHF 150 (Non-refundable application fee payable upon submission of the application.)
- Administration Fee: CHF 1,000 (One-time administration fee applicable to the Foundation Programme.)
- Foundation Programme (Without Credits): CHF 5,500 (One semester, audit track without examinations or ECTS credits.)
- Foundation Programme (With Credits): CHF 7,500 (One semester credit-bearing track with assessment and official transcript.)
Tuition fees are expressed in Swiss Francs (CHF) and are subject to the Geneva School of Diplomacy’s official Tuition Fees, Terms and Conditions. The Foundation Programme is offered in two pathways: a credit-bearing option and a non-credit option. Students should select the pathway that best aligns with their academic objectives and future study plans.
Progression Pathways
Successful completion of the Foundation Programme supports progression to the Master of Arts in International Relations at the Geneva School of Diplomacy, subject to academic performance and admissions requirements.
